February 1944

There was a fire at Lydia
Andrews house. It sat between Bakers and the store. At that
time the only thing we had to fight fires was a bucket brigade
and a cart that carried soda acid bottles. The nearest
Fire companies were Titusville and Meadville. They would
only come to a fire if someone would either guarantee the money
or run in and give the money.

Dec. 30, 1944

An opening meeting was
held at the Vocational School for the purpose of starting
a Volunteer Fire Company.

Feb. 5, 1945
|
Received its charter
for operation.

March 1945
|
Purchased the Mallinee
lot for $250.00 for a fire hall. Before that there was a hotel
with shops underneath

Nov. 1945
|
The first truck was a
1945 Ford Chassis with a American LeFrance pumper. The truck
was kept in Bossards Esso Station from the time of purchase
in 1945 until the original Fire Station was finished in May
of 1948.

|
First meeting at the
fire hall. The first building was block with a flat roof.

Early 50's
|
A pick-up truck was donated
by Rex Carpenter and was used to carry soda acid bottles.

1957
|
Mert Boyle and Bob Klein
went to Brookville and bought a tank. The tank was put on
the chassis of the truck donated by Rex Carpenter in the back
of Bossards Garage.

Talk about buying a tank
truck and selling the current one.

|
Transfer of titles for
a new truck. Mert Boyle, Jim Harrington and others transferred the
tank from from the 1957 truck to this one

The first time Fire School
was ever mentioned.

Discussion on purchasing
more land from Mrs. Mallinee.

|
Talk of having a "door
to door" membership drive.

|
First mention of the
Ambulance Service.

August 1969
|
Consideration of purchasing
a new chassis for the tanker.

September 1969
|
The Ambulance Service
joined the Fire Dept. as an Auxiliary or separate sub-division.
The first ambulance call was a bus accident near Baughman's
Farm. The bus rolled over and a child was killed.

November 1969
|
Purchased a new truck
chassis and cab from Daily and Kocan. Transferred the current
tank which soon leaked and was replaced by a stainless steel
tank purchased from army surplus.

|
Ladies Auxiliary joins
the Fire Department.

March 1972
|
Purchased property from
Dan Peters. Between 1972-1974 a steel 2 bay Butler building
was added to hold two Fire trucks.

1975
|
A 1963 Ford pumper was
purchased and stayed in service until 1983
|

1980
|
Truck #5 the 1969 Ford
Brush truck was purchased and a front mount pump was installed.
Used as a water supply truck.

November 1980
|
Formed the Joint Board
of Directors.

May 1983
|
Purchased Truck #6
a 1983 Chevy Pumper Tanker. Retired the 1963 Pumper.

1984
|
The 1973 Chevy Tanker
was retrofitted with new compartments.

May 1986
|
The Joint board began
planning for a building addition

1986
|
Purchased a 1/4 acre
of land from Betty Bradley for parking.

April 1988
|
Started Construction
of the current truck room consisting of 4 bays and storage areas.
Labor was donated by local industries

June 1989
|
Building dedicated.

1991
|
Truck #5 The brush truck
was retrofitted with new rear compartments and a new tank.

July 1994
|
Received and put into
service a new 1994 International/New Lexington Pumper Tanker.

The Borough donated the
parking lot across the street to the Fire Dept.
